The project involved remodeling our bathroom and part of the hallway. The team worked efficiently and kept disruptions to a minimum. They were organized and made sure materials were handled properly. The final look is clean and updated, exactly what we were hoping for.

Bathroom and hallway remodel · May 2026

We had Eilon and his team remodel our master bath. New shower, tub, vanity, tiled floors, etc. This project took over three weeks but we are very happy with the result! Eilon checked in on the progress three or four times a week and a special thank you to Avilla who did the majority of the labor as well as Stav for her design expertise.

Master bathroom remodel · April 2025

We fully renovated the primary and guest bathrooms. The primary going for just the tub area making it bigger and more safe getting in and out of. We are truly grateful for the team we came across. Everything was done in a good timely manner. They do amazing work and there very respectful. I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Older Dallas homes

What an older Dallas house means for a bathroom remodel

Dallas has a much older housing stock than its northern suburbs. Census estimates put the median Dallas home at 1980, and about 35% of homes predate 1970, including 10% built before 1950. Houses from before 1950 and from the 1950s and 1960s together make up about a third of the city's homes.

In a bathroom, age shows up behind the tile. Before choosing a layout in an older house, find out what the drain and supply lines are made of and whether the floor is a concrete slab or a raised wood floor over a crawlspace. On a slab, moving a toilet or shower drain means cutting concrete; on a raised floor the lines are easier to reroute, but the framing has to be checked for the weight of a tiled shower or a cast tub.

An older bathroom may also have only a window for ventilation. A remodel is the time to add an exhaust fan that vents outdoors and to put the fan, the lighting and any floor heat on circuits planned together, so the walls are opened once.

Showers, tubs, vanities and tile

Choosing showers, tubs, vanities and tile for a Dallas bathroom

The four decisions that shape the room, and what each one asks of the house.

Walk-in and curbless showers

A walk-in shower with a low curb keeps the existing floor level, so it suits many layouts without structural work. A curbless shower needs the floor under it recessed so water runs to the drain; on a slab that means cutting concrete, so it is decided in planning, not after demolition.

Tubs and tub-to-shower changes

A freestanding tub needs floor space and a floor that carries its filled weight. Replacing a tub with a walk-in shower changes the drain too: its position and fittings are planned with the floor, which on a slab means concrete work.

Vanities and storage

In a small prewar or 1950s bath, a custom vanity sized to the room, or a narrower or wall-hung one, gives back floor space. Moving the sink means new supply and drain lines in that wall, so the position is fixed while the wall is open.

Tile, stone and waterproofing

Shower walls in an older house may be tile set on a mortar bed or plaster rather than modern backer board. The plan decides whether to strip to the studs and rebuild with backer board and a waterproof membrane, which also exposes the old shower valve and supply lines.

City of Dallas permits

City of Dallas permits for a bathroom remodel

Dallas takes building permit applications through DallasNow, the city's online system for permitting, planning, inspections and engineering. Remodel work on a house goes in under the residential alteration and addition permit, and plans, documents and payments are all submitted in the portal.

Dallas enforces the 2021 International codes with Dallas amendments, effective May 12, 2023: the 2021 International Residential Code and Plumbing Code with Dallas amendments, and the 2020 National Electrical Code with Dallas amendments. Which parts of your bathroom scope need a permit is confirmed during planning, before the schedule is set.

In a conservation district such as Lakewood or the M Streets, work goes through the city's Conservation District Work Review application; replacing a bathroom window there means photos of each window and the new product's details, and staff recommend a consultation before an addition or exterior remodel. More on the districts is on our Dallas home remodeling page.

Questions

Dallas bathroom remodeling questions

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Dallas?

We do not publish prices. Cost depends on the size of the room, layout changes, what is under the floor of an older bath, and the finishes you choose; you get a confirmed, line-item budget during planning, before construction starts.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

The schedule depends on the scope, on how long selections and the DallasNow permit take, and on what an older bath shows once the floor and walls are open. It is set during planning, so you know it before work begins.

Can you turn my tub into a walk-in shower?

Yes. Walk-in and curbless showers are part of our bathroom remodeling scope, with tile and waterproofing. A curbless shower on a slab floor needs the concrete recessed, which is decided during planning.

Do you remodel bathrooms in older Dallas homes?

Yes. In a prewar or mid-century house the plan checks the drain and supply lines, the floor structure and the ventilation before the layout is final, so surprises are found on paper rather than during demolition.

What should I look for in bathroom remodelers in Dallas?

Real bathroom projects and reviews you can read, a written scope and budget before demolition, a plan for what is behind the walls of an older house, and a contractor who pulls the permit and shows it to you before work starts.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel in Dallas?

Remodel work on a house is applied for as a residential alteration and addition permit in the city's DallasNow portal. We confirm which parts of your bathroom scope need one during planning.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Global Green Solutions & Remodeling is licensed, bonded, and insured (License #992930), with 15+ years serving homeowners.
