Carrollton homes

Carrollton: a 1980s city across three counties

By Census estimates the median Carrollton home was built in 1988. More homes date from the 1980s (29%) than from any other decade, followed by the 1970s (18%), and about 58% of homes are owner-occupied. Carrollton also spans three counties: in the 2020 Census about 61% of residents lived in Denton County, 38% in Dallas County and a small number in Collin County.

In a house that age, plan the remodel with its systems in mind. When a kitchen or bath is opened, that is the moment to replace old supply lines, add circuits and improve ventilation in that part of the house, rather than closing the walls on 40-year-old work. Our bathroom remodeling cost guide shows how those items move a budget.

Carrollton permits

Carrollton permit rules for remodels and additions

Carrollton handles permits and inspections in its CityServe portal. For a residential remodel, the city wants a complete set of construction documents, scaled and labeled, that shows existing and proposed conditions. Taking out a wall needs either evidence that it is not load-bearing or engineered structural plans.

Additions need a plot plan or survey showing setbacks and easements, plus foundation, wall-bracing and engineered floor and roof plans designed by a professional engineer. The city adopted the 2024 International codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code with local amendments, effective September 1, 2025, and publishes guidelines for virtual inspections.

The project involved remodeling our bathroom and part of the hallway. The team worked efficiently and kept disruptions to a minimum. They were organized and made sure materials were handled properly. The final look is clean and updated, exactly what we were hoping for.

Bathroom and hallway remodel · May 2026

We had Eilon and his team remodel our master bath. New shower, tub, vanity, tiled floors, etc. This project took over three weeks but we are very happy with the result! Eilon checked in on the progress three or four times a week and a special thank you to Avilla who did the majority of the labor as well as Stav for her design expertise.

After speaking with several remodeling companies and contractors, we chose Global Green Solutions and they did not disappoint. Ari and his team took my vision and made it even better than I could have imagined. They removed a wall and completely remodeled my kitchen in 2.5 weeks. Their professionalism was a 10. Their work and craftsmanship was a 10.5! I would highly recommend and will use them for future projects moving forward!

How it works

How a Carrollton remodel is planned

Four steps; structural questions are answered in step two, before CityServe.

  1. 01

    Consultation

We walk your Carrollton house and hear the goals, noting any wall you want gone.

  2. 02

    Planning & Design

We design the layout and prepare the CityServe submittal; the city asks for engineer-designed plans when a load-bearing wall comes out or an addition goes on.

  3. 03

    Pre-Construction Preparation

Selections, pricing and materials are settled while the city reviews the plans.

  4. 04

    Build & Final Walkthrough

We build, inspections happen on site or virtually where the city allows, and we walk the result with you.

The full method is on our planning-first process page.
