Home Remodeling in Richardson, TX
Global Green Solutions & Remodeling does home remodeling in Richardson, TX: kitchens, bathrooms, whole-home remodels, room additions and garage conversions, planned before construction begins. Richardson is about 3 miles from our Plano office at 1209 Meadowcrest Dr, and more than a third of its homes date from the 1960s and 1970s.
Richardson's 1960s and 1970s houses
Richardson's housing is older than that of the cities north of it. Census estimates put the median home at 1985, with 21% built in the 1970s, 16% in the 1960s and 7% in the 1950s, and about half of all homes are owner-occupied. The city spans Dallas and Collin counties, with about two thirds of residents on the Dallas County side in the 2020 Census.
In a house from the 1960s or 1970s, plan the systems with the finishes: the wiring, the plumbing and any wall you want to move. In Richardson each of those changes is a permitted alteration with drawings (below). Our guide to planning a whole-home remodel walks through the order of decisions.

Explore serviceWhat Richardson's Home Improvement Incentive Program pays, and who qualifies
Richardson's Home Improvement Incentive Program (HIIP) rewards owners in single-family zoning who substantially remodel or rebuild. The project must cost at least $20,000 and be finished within 24 months of approval, and the application goes to Community Services before construction begins, with a cost estimate, consent to periodic inspections and a final cost check.
The payment is a one-time incentive equal to 10 times the increase in city property taxes that results from the higher appraised value, paid on April 1 of the first full calendar year after completion. The city notes that the payment may count as taxable income. If you are planning a whole-home remodel or an addition in Richardson, apply before work starts.

Richardson permits for interior remodels and additions
Richardson requires a building permit for all alterations to a structure, including moving or adding walls and changing plumbing, electrical or mechanical systems. An interior remodel permit needs dimensioned before-and-after floor plans with adjacent rooms labeled, bedroom egress sizes and a written scope; a framing plan for any structural change; elevations if the outside changes; and a gas sizing plan where gas appliances are involved.
Plans are checked against the 2021 International Residential Code with regional and local amendments, which the City Council adopted on April 24, 2023. The approved permit must be posted at the house before work begins, and every contractor on the job must be registered with the city.
- Two sets of drawings for review
- Submit by email, by mail or by hand at the Building Inspection office
- Elevations label every exterior material; masonry and siding percentages may be required
- Online permits cover specific project types only

What started out as a shower head that wouldn’t turn off, turned into a bathroom and kitchen remodel. Vlad was great to work with. He kept me updated on information he received and addressed all of my questions and concerns. Will contact him again when I decide to do another project.
