Murphy homes

Murphy: a city built in the 2000s

By Census estimates, 64% of Murphy's homes were built in the 2000s, the highest share for that decade among the towns we serve (Fairview is next at 43%). The median year is 2005, there are about 5,900 homes in all, and nine in ten are owner-occupied.

So neighbors often share the same era of kitchens, baths and floor plans. The houses are young enough that a remodel is mostly about layout and finishes, and the plan can spend its budget there; if you are weighing one room against several, our full-home remodeling page explains how a combined project is planned.

Murphy permits

When Murphy requires a permit

Murphy requires a permit to build, remodel or enlarge a building, including any remodel of or addition to a house and electrical work. Cosmetic work (painting, wallpaper, flooring, cabinets and trim) needs no permit, and neither does replacing a plumbing fixture.

Plans are reviewed under the 2021 International codes and the 2020 National Electrical Code, in effect in Murphy from March 1, 2024, and permits are applied for online. The city also reminds residents to check their HOA's deed restrictions and covenants, which can add requirements of their own.

The project involved remodeling our bathroom and part of the hallway. The team worked efficiently and kept disruptions to a minimum. They were organized and made sure materials were handled properly. The final look is clean and updated, exactly what we were hoping for.

Bathroom and hallway remodel · May 2026

We had Eilon and his team remodel our master bath. New shower, tub, vanity, tiled floors, etc. This project took over three weeks but we are very happy with the result! Eilon checked in on the progress three or four times a week and a special thank you to Avilla who did the majority of the labor as well as Stav for her design expertise.

Master bathroom remodel · April 2025

After speaking with several remodeling companies and contractors, we chose Global Green Solutions and they did not disappoint. Ari and his team took my vision and made it even better than I could have imagined. They removed a wall and completely remodeled my kitchen in 2.5 weeks. Their professionalism was a 10. Their work and craftsmanship was a 10.5! I would highly recommend and will use them for future projects moving forward!
